What Are The Best Ways To Begin Playing The Guitar?

By Mike Wong

Playing the guitar can be an entertaining and satisfying experience. There's nothing more fun than showing off to your friends and family by playing some popular songs. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to learn guitar for beginners especially if you don't know where to start. There are many who have tried to learn the guitar and failed to learn enough to play the easiest guitar songs. Those are the people who quit right away.

To learn the guitar requires you to master the basics. First off, your guitar needs to be in tune, otherwise every note you play will sound awful. Without tuning your guitar on a regular basis, the strings will become stretched and sound distorted. The standard tuning for a guitar is E-A-D-G-B-E. While there are other tuning you can use, it is best to start with this one first.

Once you have tuned your guitar, you can start playing some notes with it. To play a note, pick a string and push down to the neck at one of the frets with one finger, and pluck at the string with the finger on your other hand. Experiment with different frets on the same string. Congrats, you can now play different notes with your guitar.

Now that you are able to play a few notes, the next step is to figure out how to play some basic chords. Looking at a standard guitar chord chart, find a few simple chords to try and play. It will take some time to train your fingers to play chords properly, but don't get frustrated. You will get the hang of them, and eventually you should be able to go back and forth between a few alternate chords at once.

You may become bored playing these simple notes and chords. Nothing will get you more excited about playing the guitar than being figuring out how to play your first tune. To accomplish this, we are going to look for some guitar tabs to play. Guitar tabs allow you to play songs without the ability to read sheet music and you can find guitar tabs for almost any song out there. The tabs are basically a diagram that displays the 6 strings of the guitar along with numbers that represent the fret you should hold down for each note. Just pick a simple guitar tab to try and practice it until it becomes natural for you to play. Don't get frustrated, as it will take you some time to master it. Although there are still many skills to learn, you are now on your way to mastering the guitar.
