One of the most well-balanced tennis racquets we've ever demoed was the Head Liquidmetal Instinct. After playing with it for two whole days, we nearly wanted to buy one and found no gaping flaws whatsoever.
This is a very lightweight racquet, which would normally place it in a class that's more appropriate for intermediate players, but make no mistake. This is a great racquet for advanced tennis players.
The ball coming off the Liquidmetal Instinct feel great, and any shock is nonexistent, while the control is great. The head size is bigger than the mid-plus racquets in the Liquidmetal series, but it didn't seem to give us the drawbacks that a larger head usually brings.
We loved the power too. We found ourselves swinging at 80% of our usual racquet speed, and there was a little more oomph in our shots than usual. Serving was phenomenal, especially our second serves. They fell somewhere in between the speed of our usual second serves and our usual first serves.
Ground strokes using the Head Liquidmetal Instinct were easy to perform, but those used to a heavier racquet might need to adjust a little before letting forehands rip. The ball will most likely take off on you the first few times.
Additionally, it almost seems like it was built for players who apply heavy spin to their shots, which we absolutely loved, being the topspin fiends that we are.
If there's anything bad we have to say about the racquet (this is an objective review, so we almost feel like we must), it's that you may end up taking the racquet's natural power for granted. This can cause you to under swing sometimes, as simply blocking a hard hit shot will fall short of your expectations. In this case, you'll be better served by a full swing.
The Head Liquidmetal Instinct is a great racquet for any player 4.0 or higher. The weight might be a little too light for some players, but adding lead tape and customizing it a bit can easily fix that. The Head Liquidmetal Instinct is definitely worth at least a demo for anyone in the market for a great overall player's racquet.
