Free Bicycles - Who Doesn't Want One?

By Garrett Brock

You can't get any cheaper than free! If you have been holding out on getting a bike because you don't have the money, then you have been waiting for no reason. It isn't hard at all to find a free bike. People give away bikes all the time, or worse, people sometimes even throw away their perfectly use-able bikes.

I am friends with a trash man and in his job he comes across all sorts of working and useful stuff that people put in the garbage. Working stereos, fans, portable heaters, TVs, microwaves, are just a few of the things he has found in the trash and used for himself. His boss even has a storage shed full of stuff that he finds in the trash. You know what his boss does with some of the stuff that he finds? He sells it in a garage sale for extra cash.

If you want a free bike, the Internet has made it even easier to find one. These two web sites are my favorite to go to for finding free things. Even if you don't want a free bike, check them out, as you may be surprised at what some people will give away for free!

The first web site is called Freecycle.org. There you can join the group for your area and see what is being given away for free. Depending on where you live, you can often find someone giving away a bicycle they no longer want. Everything on this site is being given away for free. This site is a good place to get rid of some stuff you don't want also. If you have a bunch of stuff lying around that you want off of your hands, you can give it away on Freecycle.org.

The next site to check for free bicycles is Craigslist.com. This is a very popular site that is used by tons of people. While I like Freecycle.org because it focuses only on free stuff, Craigslist.com is used for much more than finding things being given away. Again, it depends on where you live, but for people living in or near a populated city, you should be able to eventually find someone that is giving away a bicycle on Craigslist.com. The "Free" section is located in the "For Sale" area.

There you have it, two places to go online to find a free bike. When trying these out, I do suggest you keep your guard up for weirdos. I'm not saying everyone using these sites are weirdos, because many of them are average people, but every now and then, you may find a weirdo.
