A Preview of the FA Premier League

By Joseph Donnelly

An eventful summer regarding the EPL leaves every team taken aback by Manchester City's bold moves. However, it's business as usual for a few clubs who believe they have a chance to contend.

Other teams like Birmingham City, Burnley, and Wolves, all spent more money than usual too. Fans in Burnley are quite pleased about this. As far as the Wolves go, they're looking much better than usual, and the acquisition of Michael Mancienne bolsters the club and brings it to another level.

Blackburn Rovers are at a loss without their top goal scorer, and should regress from last year's campaign. Sunderland, with Steve Bruce as its manager now, should be improved in the face of its management upgrade and a few small acquisitions. As far as Wigan Athletic goes, a new manager in Bruce will be a good thing, but probably won't be enough to offset the loss of a few of the team's critical players.

While many see Hull City as a strong club, a look at their second half of last season shows legitimate weakness. The club might be aware of this, as the Stephen Hunt signing and rumors of another potential acquisition may be just what the club needs.

Gianfranco Zola turned West Ham United into a tidy outfit last season, but lack of signings and a striking injury crisis could leave them in trouble if they don't strengthen before the transfer window, while Portsmouth seem to be in all kinds of disarray, with the clubs ownership in limbo and big players leaving in the summer. A tough season beckons it would seem.

Stoke City is always strong in front of its home crowd, but doesn't have enough going for the club to put it at the top. I still believe they'll be one of the better clubs, however.

That leaves Fulham and Bolton Wanderers as the remaining participants in this year's sure to be action packed Premier League season. Fulham play attractive football and perhaps over achieved a little bit last time out, but solid mid table should be a comfortable goal for them. Bolton on the other hand look as though their struggle is becoming an annual affair after their brief flirtations with the top 8 in recent seasons. They have brought in some useful defenders and like Stoke and Fulham will be banking on their home form to see off any danger.

And that wraps up my preview of the new season! I can't wait for it to begin. Who do you believe will win?
