Play Time: Hulot (Tali) drifts through an unrecognizable modern Paris of steel and glass skyscrapers. Scene and noise gags abound in this superbly created film. These assorted effects are connected by Hulot's attempt to keep a meeting. Cast includes Jacques Tali, Barbara Dennek, Jacqueline Lecomte, Valerie Camille, and Leon Doyen. (126 minutes, 1967)

The Education of Sonny Carson: A fascinating if overemotional drama of a disobedient black youth in Brooklyn of the '50s and '60s. Based on Carson's autobiography, the film takes on extra meaning with consideration to his notoriety on the N.Y.C scene. Cast includes Ronny Familyton, Don Gordon, Joyce Stroller, and Paul Benjamin. (105 minutes, 1974)

MacArthur: An intense look at the legend of the elaborate military chief throughout WW2 and the Korean War. Peck is phenomenal although the film doesn't hold the punch of Patton. Cast includes Gregory Peck, Dan O'Herlihy, Ed Flanders, Sandy Kenyon, Dick O'Neill, and Craft Fleming. (130 minutes, 1977)

Number 17: Amusing comedy-thriller has tramp Lion coming across a treasure robber's hideout. Arousing chase scene engages a train and bus. Screenplay by Hitchcock.T, Cast includes Lion, Anne Grey, John Stuart, Donald Calthrop, Barry Jones, and Garry Bog. (63 minutes, 1932)

The Plot against Harry: An entertaining, perceptive look at N.Y.C. life in reference to an aging mobster just sprung from jail, who finds the old guard changing, and his life unraveling. Cast includes Martin Pastor, Ben Lang, Maxine Woods, Henry Nemo, Jacques Taylor, Jean Leslie, Ellen Herbert, and Sandra Kazan. (80 minutes, 1989)

Border Incident: A well put together tale of the U.S. border patrol trying to stem the tide of the smuggling of immigrants across Texas-Mexico boundary. Cast includes Ricardo Montalban, George Murphy, Howard da Silva, and Charles McGraw. (92 minutes, 1949)

Stairway to Heaven: Powell and Pressburger manage to straddle actuality and fantasy in a most disarming approach in this irregular tale of a guide in WW2 who claims he was unintentionally selected to die, and should now plead for his life in a Heavenly court. Cast includes David Niven, Kim Hunter, Raymond Massey, Roger Livesey, Robert Coote, Marius Goring, and Richard Attenborough. (104 minutes, 1946)

Hail Mary: An uninteresting, overblown updating of the tale of Christ's birth, with Mary a student basketball competitor! Even though still a virgin, she finds herself pregnant. This film kindled much dissension and was even condemned by the Pope. Cast includes Myriem Roussel, Thierry Rode, Philippe Lacoste, Manon Anderson, and Juliette Binoche. (107minutes, 1985)

Little Vegas: Discreet comedy about some unconventional characters in a trailer park in a barren region that Mafia developers desire to turn into a smaller version of Vegas. Cast includes Anthony John Denison, Catherine O'Hara, Jerry Stiller, Michael Nouri, Perry Lang, and Bruce McGill. (91 minutes, 1990)
